Music at the Cathedral The Cathedral Parish is recognized for the high quality music programs. The excellent music that is part of liturgies at the Cathedral are made possible through the hard work of many people.
THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT RAPHAEL OFFERS MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERESTED MUSICIANS AND SINGERS TO SERVE IN ROLES OF MUSICAL LEADERSHIP FOR THE MOTHER CHURCH OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE. PLEASE CONSIDER ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS: Cathedral Choir Welcomes all voices (high school and adult). Rehearsals are Monday evenings in the sanctuary from 7-9 pm. The Cathedral Choir’s primary role is to support congregational singing through hymns, psalms, responses and mass settings. The choir also prepares a vast wealth of literature from the great repertoire of the church including chant, polyphony, spirituals and modern musical settings. We regularly sing at the 10am mass on Sunday morning. No experience in singing is necessary. "No Commitment Choir Sunday Sing" During slow months of the year, we encourage anyone interested to sing with the Cathedral choir on chosen Sundays without any firm commitment. This is an opportunity for you to see if singing in the choir is a good fit for you. Please inquire with the Director of Music about upcoming No Commitment singing dates. Women's Schola This liturgical choir welcomes all women’s voices. The ladies support congregational singing in addition to preparing choral repertoire in 2,3 and 4- part harmony. Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 6-7pm. Mass times are scheduled within the Schola's time and availability, generally 1 liturgy per month. Cathedral Children's Choir Welcomes all young singers (grades 3-7) in the parish. Rehearsals are Monday afternoons from 4-5:15 pm in the church. The children sing once a month at the 10am or 5:30 pm liturgy. Rehearsals include games, music theory and sight –singing techniques, social time and development in liturgical music/leadership skills. Cathedral Cantor Ministry We are looking for STRONG singers to lead, animate and support the assembly's music at liturgy. Interested singers (high school and adult) must be able to read music, have good rhythm and sight singing skills, dedication, and a willingness to self prepare. It is helpful if cantors are participating in a regularly scheduled choir. Instrumentalists Please consult with the Director of Music in determining how we can utilize your gift. All instrumentalists must possess good sight- reading and intonation skills. Contact Jim Mendralla, Director of Music with questions or to express interest. The parish office phone number is (563) 582-7646. Jim's email address is DBQ054S1@arch.pvt.k12.ia.us |
