 Archbishop Hanus is the 11th Bishop and 9th Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Born in Brainard, Nebraska, Archbishop Hanus joined the Order of Saint Benedict on September 1, 1961. He was ordained a Priest on July 30, 1966.

On July 6, 1987 Father Hanus was named Bishop of Saint Cloud, Minnesota. He was ordained as Bishop on August 24, 1987.

On August 23, 1994 Bishop Hanus was named the Coadjutor Archbishop of Dubuque with Automatic Right of Succession. He was installed as Coadjutor Archbishop on October 27, 1994. Archbishop Hanus Succeeded Archbishop Kucera upon the latter's retirement on October 16, 1995.
